Mission Statement:

The National Association of Pastoral Musicians fosters the art of musical liturgy. The members of NPM serve the Catholic Church in the United States as musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of prayer. (NPM Mission Statement)

Here in the NPM Detroit Chapter, our goals are to deepen the spiritual life of each pastoral musician, encourage social interaction among pastoral musicians, provide an educational forum on current issues affecting musical practices in the parish, both for the musician and the clergy, and improve the musical skills of all those involved in music ministry.

Our local NPM Chapter is dedicated to providing opportunities for learning, sharpening our skills, deepening our faith, and most importantly, getting to know one another and supporting one another in ministry. Please take a look at what we have to offer this coming year and mark your calendars for these events. Invite fellow liturgical ministers, especially the clergy, who might enjoy attending and gaining more insight into our ministries.

It is our privilege to join with you as we work to inspire and lead the assemblies of the faithful in liturgical music. Please keep those who minister and work together in our church in your prayers. Let us come together as disciples to strengthen and grow in the ministry of music and to encourage others in love as Christ does for us.

As a pastoral musician, Rubi is adamant about creating the musicians that will one day replace us. This is not

only about forming musicians that already exist, but in actually creating the musician. As such, she has taught

piano over the years at a number of places, including COMPAS (Center of Music and Performing Arts

Southwest) and Garage Cultural. Both centers are located in southwest Detroit and dedicated to creating

musicians in families that could otherwise not afford private music instruction. Rubi currently teaches piano at
